Help  β€Ί  🧳 Moving your data from Ancestry

Download your DNA results from Ancestry

If you tested with AncestryDNA you can download your raw DNA data β€” the file the family archive's DNA vault reads. Ancestry keeps working exactly as before; you're taking a copy, not moving anything.

  1. Sign in and open DNA β†’ your results summary.
  2. Open Settings on your DNA results page.
  3. Find Download Raw DNA Data (under test management / privacy).
  4. Enter your password β€” Ancestry emails you a confirmation link.
  5. Click the link in that email and the download starts: a small `.zip` file. Don't unzip it; the vault takes it as-is.
Your raw DNA file is sensitive β€” it's literally you. Family Forest stores it encrypted, only you (the kit's owner) can download or remove it, and only the computed shared-DNA matches are visible to family.

Then bring it to Family Forest

  1. Open your own page in the tree (avatar menu β†’ My page in the tree).
  2. In the DNA panel, choose the file with Upload kit and confirm.
  3. Matches against other uploaded family kits compute automatically β€” as more relatives upload theirs, your match list grows.
