Hints are Family Forest's discoveries — suggestions that connect your tree to the rest of the family and to outside records. This is what makes the sovereign-tree model come alive: everyone builds their own tree, and hints weave them together.
Where they come from
Once a night, Family Forest quietly compares every family member's tree and finds the same people. It also looks at outside records. You don't run anything — hints just appear in your Discoveries.
The kinds of hints
- Same person — someone in another member's tree looks like a person in yours (same name, close dates). Accepting it confirms “these are the same human” and links the two.
- Fill a fact — once two people are linked, if the other tree knows a birth or death date or place that yours is missing, it's offered as a fill.
- Fact conflict — the other tree disagrees with a fact you already have. You decide which is right.
- Photo tag — a linked relative has named a face that yours hasn't. Accept it to adopt their identification onto your photos.
This is exactly the cross-pollination families want: when your cousin adds their kids to their tree, they surface in your hints, and accepting pulls the people, their facts, and their photos into your tree — with the source noted.
Hints are durable: the nightly sweep refreshes them but never overrides a decision you made. And only the tree's owner can act on that tree's hints.
